Girls, Boys, and Diapers - Figure # 2

-By B. Terrance Grey
Part of the Survey Project at Understanding.Infantilism.Org

Figure #2 - a bar chart showing the percent of ABDL men and women who reported preferences for the basic roles, ranging from newborn to caregiver.

Figure Description

Figure #2 is a bar chart, breaking down female ABDLs by onset type and the indications of paraphilia. It drew data from questions #14,#19, and #19, as well as #4 and #5 to filter for female ABDLs.

As discussed elsewhere, paraphilic infantilism and diaper fetishism involve both an interest and a condition driving that interest. ABDLs without paraphilic infantilism or diaper fetishism have the interest, but not the driving condition. The indicator used by the American Psychiatric Association for the condition is a clinically significant distress or impairment due to the interests[1]. As discussed elsewhere, there are drawbacks to this indicator. However, it is the conventional means of separating those with a paraphilic condition from those who might just have unusual tastes. As shown in Figure #2, the two groups differ significantly, but also have commonalities. The percent shown is the percentage of female ABDLs that did or did not report having distress or impairment.

Surveyees were categorized as paraphilic if they reported having distress (question #19), impairment (question #20), or both.

Surveyees were asked to select the best match for onset type. Since the answer would depend of recollections from early childhood, in some cases, substantial variation in the answers were expected.

Questions and Results Crosstabulation

14)Was there some event that you think might have originally caused your interest in diapers or babyhood, or did the interest seem to always be there?

  1. My interests were there before, but at some time I realized that I was different; that others around me didn't share the interest.
  2. My interests were probably caused by a specific event (stumbling across a reference to ABDL activities somewhere, getting introduced to it, an incident of emotional trauma, trying a new kink, sexual abuse, etc.)
  3. My interests started at a certain time, but I'm not sure what event caused them.
  4. I remember acting on my interests in diapers and babyhood, but don't remember when they started or when I realized that they made me different.
  5. I was wearing diapers already for bedwetting or incontinence, and noticed that I was starting to enjoy wearing them or being a baby.
  6. I decided to try adding diapers or babyhood to my existing ageplay, BDSM, fetish, etc., interest.
  7. None. I've never had an interest in diapers or babyhood.

19)Has there been a period of more than six months, where your interest in diapers and babyhood (or BDSM, fetishism, etc.) has caused you significant distress? This might involve concern over your inability to control your interests, anxiety about what else these interests might mean, stress about how it will affect others, etc.

  1. No
  2. Yes

20)Has there been a period of more than six months, where your interest in diapers and babyhood (or BDSM, fetishism, etc.) has impaired you socially or professionally for over six months? This might involve not being able to concentrate at school or work, because of thinking about diapers; shying away from friends because you wanted to wear diapers in private; damage to your marriage or career from being having your secret interests made public; etc.

  1. No
  2. Yes
